Easy NFT creation using an online platform

It is possible to create your own NFT on Ethereum by writing and deploying an NFT (ERC-721) smart contract and then using it to ‘mint’ an NFT, but this is a rather complicated process requiring some developer skills. In this article, we will describe an easier way on how to create NFTs using an online platform. The process is the same whether you are creating them out of videos, images, digital arts, or 3D models. Let's go over it step by step.

To begin with, make sure you have your crypto wallet ready. The process to create an NFT comes with some associated costs. The second step would be to connect your wallet to an online NFT platform of your preference, and there are plenty to choose from including OpenSea, Rarible, Nifty Gateway, NFT Showroom, and many others. For the sake of simplicity, the process described here refers to the OpenSea platform. Connecting your wallet is as simple as clicking on the ‘connect your wallet’ button. This would be located in the upper right corner of the screen. After connecting your wallet, you may go to your profile to create collections for your items. These work as categories to organize your content.

Now, it is time to upload your file. Click on the create button at the navigation bar. There are a variety of file extensions supported which include jpeg, mp3, png, gif, etc. The maximum file size is 100Mb in the case of OpenSea. Also, you will be given the option to set up a name and description for your NFT. You may also assign a collection to your item at this point.  After you have configured the options, click on create.

Congrats! You now have an NFT item ready to sell. You will have the option to sell your item at a fixed price or at a timed auction. To sell at a fixed price you simply have to set the amount of Ethereum (ETH) and the duration of your listing which is set up by default to six months. When selling at an auction, you need to set a starting price and choose between one of two methods: sell at the highest bidder or at a declining price, which allows the listing to reduce in price until a buyer is found. Listing is free, but OpenSea charges 2,5% when the item is sold. 

The last step would be to publish your listing. If this is your first time creating an NFT, there might be an additional transaction fee or gas fee which you only need to pay once in order to get your listing published.
